Design Director (visual/digital)

Above is looking for a Design Director to join our creative team based in our Stockholm studio. This is a permanent full-time role. Job Description As a Visual Design Director you will be a key player in driving cutting-edge design and innovation projects for some of the world’s most exciting brands. You will help us identify and secure new commercial opportunities, acting as a strategic partner for new and existing clients. With a high level of conceptual thinking, you will have a direct impact in shaping excellent project deliveries through craft and creativity, while also shaping our culture, team capabilities, and ways of working across disciplines. Our work is exciting and diverse in nature, spanning digital experiences such as websites, apps, and HMI. We collaborate across disciplines to create impact across all organizational levels and future horizons — from category-defining hero products to multidimensional digital ecosystems. What we are looking for We are looking for an inspiring, forward-thinking Design Director who demonstrates excellence in craft, creativity, leadership, and emerging technologies: • Forward-thinking approach to digital product experiences, with a keen interest in emerging trends and future developments • Holistic thinker with strong conceptualization skills and critical-thinking abilities, comfortable leading conversations with stakeholders across design, technology, and business • Demonstrated commercial experience in selling impactful digital experience projects — ideally supported by a strong professional network • Strong storytelling and client leadership, with the ability to clearly communicate ideas and thought processes to both peers and clients • Preferably 10+ years of professional experience, including familiarity with fast-paced agency environments and workflows • Ability to lead, mentor, and grow multidisciplinary design teams, fostering creative excellence, psychological safety, and high performance • Ability to lead clients through complex challenges and structure design processes that enable diverse teams to succeed • Aesthetic sensibility in harmony with a thoughtful, user-centered approach to design, business, and technology • Experience using — or actively driving — AI-enabled design workflows to explore ideas faster, prototype more intelligently, and elevate creative and strategic outcomes • Ability to translate emerging AI capabilities into meaningful design direction, team practices, and client value • A humble, self-propelled, and collaborative team player who feels at home in multi-competence project constellations A bit about Above We are a Scandinavian innovation agency dedicated to driving positive change through the integration of design, strategy, and technology.
